Who We Are
welcome
Thank you for visiting our website.
The Blyth Road Church of Christ, which meets at 706 Blyth Road, welcomes visitors. You will, at all times, be considered by the congregation to be our honored guest. You may not be familiar with the Church of Christ. If this is the case, please allow us to introduce ourselves. The brethren are a group of baptized believers, over which the Lord Jesus is head (Ephesians 1:21-22). From the Bible we learn God’s Word is complete. It is all man needs for life and Godliness (2 Peter 1:3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Following God’s word only, the brethren reject doctrines and commandments developed and practiced by men (Matthew 15:7-9). Accepting any other authority is to reject Christ (1 Peter 4:11). The brethren are self-governing and are not obligated to any district or national organization.
We co-operate with sister congregations in efforts to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, but at no time do we possess any control over them; nor they of us. Each local congregation is overseen by Elders, who meet biblical qualifications (1Timothy 3: 1-7).
Deacons are to carry out scriptural decisions made by the Elders (1Timothy 3:8-13). The preacher is not a Pastor or Elder, unless he meets the qualifications revealed in the Bible, and is appointed to serve as a member of a local congregation’s Eldership. The preacher is simply a faithful member of the Lord’s church who has dedicated his life to teaching and preaching God’s Word (2 Timothy 1:13; 4:1-2).
What can you expect as a visitor?
The Bible reveals God’s will regarding worshiping Him. Just as the first century church assembled on the first day of the week, the brethren at Blyth Road do likewise. We do not assemble to entertain or be entertained. Following biblical example, Christians are to worship God in decency and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40).
We assemble as a congregation to worship God on Sunday, the first day of the week (Acts 2:42; Acts 20:7). In the assembly, God is worshiped through prayer (Acts 2:42; Acts 20:7), singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, without instruments of music as it was in the first century church (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16), partaking of the Lord’s Supper as taught by the Lord and His apostles, who gave example (Acts 20:7); (1 Corinthians 11:23-29), contributing financially (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 8:12; 9:6-7), and the preaching and hearing of the word of God (Acts 2:42; & 20:67; Romans 1:16; 1 Timothy 4:1-4). This is the pattern for worship given by the Lord Jesus and His apostles.
