O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.
Man often thinks he has all of the answers and thinks he is in control. God did create us with the ability to think and do wonderful things. But God did not give man the ability to direct his own way. God did give us the power to choose.
Joshua said, “Choose you this day whom you will serve, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord”. We all have choices, we must make wise choices because choices have consequences. Some choices have eternal consequences. Moses chose to be mistreated amongst the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
Man’s way may seem right and man’s way may seem right in his own eyes however we read in Proverbs that he is often mistaken.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts.
Man is liable to err for lack of knowledge. Jesus gave this warning to the Sadducees concerning the resurrection.
“You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
We must choose to follow Christ for he knows the way.
- Christ is the way.–John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. NKJV
- Man must deny himself.— Matt 10:38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. NKJV
- Sheep must hear the shepherd’s voice.— John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. NKJV
- He must count all things but loss for Christ. — Phil 3:7-8 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ. NKJV
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
We can’t go wrong by following the Lord.
The apostle John said, “If we say we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin”.
